American School of Warsaw Welcome delegates! I am honored to serve as a first-time chair at this year's ZYGMUN IX Human Rights Committee. Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Vera Lindberg, and I am a 16-year-old Junior at the American School of Warsaw. I am originally from Sweden, but have been attending the school for the past 8 years and have been doing MUN for 2 years now. Outside academics, I have balanced my time as both a committed swimmer and coach, with taking any opportunity to spend time with my friends! Being a part of the ASW MUN program has sparked a deep interest in global issues, diplomacy, and problem-solving. From my experiences as a delegate at three different conferences around Europe, I have learned the importance of preparation, being open-minded, and having respectful debates. Through these experiences, I have also learnt the importance of engaging in world issues even at our young age, since our future decisions will shape the world we live in. My goal for you as the co-chair of HRC is to help you step out of your comfort zone, speak up, and engage in meaningful debates. I aim to create an environment where all delegates feel supported and respected. I want all delegates to feel encouraged to contribute to discussions and debates. One of our topics will be “Addressing Gang Recruitment of Minors Through Economic Empowerment and Social Protection,” where we will be focusing on how to tackle today’s issue of gang recruitment of minors by implementing legislation to help decrease the economic and social urgency to get quick money through illegal actions. My goal is to uphold procedure and guide debates, but also to share my enthusiasm for MUN with every one of you. I’m always available and happy to assist or support you, whether we are in a formal session or beyond. I look forward to meeting all of you in April and seeing engaging debates, new friendships, and a memorable experience at ZYGMUN IX! Warm regards, Vera Lindberg Chair of the Human Rights Committee |

American International School of Vilnius Dear delegates, I feel honored to be a first-time chair of this year's Human Rights Committee. I would like to talk a bit about myself and my experience with MUN. I am a 17-year-old junior at the American International School of Vilnius. Outside of MUN, I volunteer at an animal shelter, participate in different sports clubs, and enjoy my free time painting. I joined MUN two years ago and have participated in many conferences so far. Although at first I was hesitant about joining MUN, ever since I did, it has opened so many growth opportunities. Conferences have helped me work on understanding different political issues and their importance in today's world, as well as helped me personally to improve my knowledge on interesting topics. Although politics might seem like a complicated topic, we are constantly affected by different political changes and policies. MUN has proved to me that no matter how young you might be, it is important to take action. After all, we are the future leaders of the world. Therefore, I hope to share my passion for MUN with you, and encourage all of you to find and foster that passion yourselves. In this committee, I seek to foster a formal yet welcoming environment where all of you are encouraged to participate without any judgment. MUN should be seen as a learning opportunity, which is why I deeply care about your involvement. As your chair, I hope to help you find your spark in the wonderful world of politics. Can't wait to see you all at the conference! Grėtė Bernatonytė Chair of the Human Rights Committee |
