Secretariat
Dear Honorable ZYGMUN III participants,
Having been with ZYGMUN since the beginning, I am honored to be serving on the Secretariat this year as Secretary General. This will be my 14th MUN conference, and each conference teaches me more, even when I think I’ve learned it all, than I think possible. I’m confident ZYGMUN will teach all of us a little bit more about ourselves and MUN.
On the note of learning, the theme of Good Health and Well Being: Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages (SDG #3) is one that on the surface may seem simple. With advanced healthcare increasingly rapidly throughout most of the world, it is increasingly easy to forget about regions that don’t have access to that same quality of healthcare, if any at all. Therefore, I hope to see all delegates push for new solutions and to look beyond simple answers, and to strive for cooperation in a world that seems increasingly divided.
On a more personal note, I am a Junior at the American School of Warsaw and am an avid gamer, author, and pilot.
I cannot wait to meet all of you this spring,
Ian Wilder
Secretary General

Dear ZYGMUN participants,
It is with great honor that I welcome you to this year’s ZYGMUN conference! I am currently a junior at the American School of Warsaw and originally German and Spanish. However, I spent the first half of my life moving around: Munich, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Zurich, before finally landing in Warsaw, a city that has since become my home.
Since joining Model United Nations five years ago, I’ve had the chance to attend eleven conferences in four countries, during which I met fascinating people who share my interest in understanding and addressing the issues that shape our world. I have also had the privilege of debating topics of all sorts in various committees, chairing at the inaugural ZYGMUN conference, and serving as President of the General Assembly during ZYGMUN 2019.
My MUN experience has exposed me to new perspectives and taught me many lessons. One of these lessons has been that addressing worldwide issues requires both individual action and collaboration. On the one hand, change requires world leaders and individuals like ourselves to take on the initiative of facing real issues. However, none of this personal drive is sufficient without joint action. We must come together and strive to accept different perspectives. And this I ask of you: Represent your countries well, work together and aim to understand others’ viewpoints, both in and out of the committee, as you seek solutions to some of today’s most pressing issues.
This year’s theme: “Good Health and Well-Being: Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages” has only become more relevant in 2020. The Covid-19 pandemic dominates the media and our lives. During ZYGMUN 2020 I encourage you to consider the ways in which this outbreak affects and changes the various committee topics. However, I also push you not to lose sight of those topics that may not seem as pressing given recent events and to put your all into finding solutions also for these topics.
I cannot wait to welcome you all to Warsaw and see the incredible things that you come up with!
Sincerely,
Julia Anting
President of the General Assembly

Dear ZYGMUN participants,
My name is Annika Julien and I am currently a junior at the American School of Warsaw. This year, I will be functioning in the Secretariat as Head of Admin at ZYGMUN III. I’m so very excited for the conference.
MUN has been one of my many passions since elementary school. It all started when I sat in on a high school conference that took place in the Polish Parliament. Shortly after, I got involved in the middle school MUN program. Since then, I have attended thirteen conferences in Paris, Budapest, Bucharest, Berlin, Thessaloniki, and here in Warsaw. MUN has taught me how to speak confidently and allowed me to exercise diplomatic skills. I fully believe that MUN gives youth the opportunity to grow into the leadership roles that we are destined to obtain.
The Secretariat, as well as the rest of the ASW MUN community, is very proud of this year’s theme: “Good Health and Well-Being: Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages”. This theme refers to the third Sustainable Development Goal of the United Nations. We decided that addressing the Sustainable Development Goals is essential as we want to encourage delegates to work towards them in and outside of the conference. We expect that delegates keep the theme in mind when drafting clauses/resolutions in order to produce efficient, humanitarian solutions.
In regards to further expectations, we want everyone participating in the conference to remember the essence of MUN: diplomacy, effective communication, and respect. Being diplomatic means acting professionally. With effective communication we expect to see you come up with successful resolutions, clauses, and amendments. We expect to hear thought provoking speeches with persuasive points that maintain your delegation’s policies. Respect is a given. I speak for the Secretariat as a whole when I say that we want ZYGMUN III to be nothing but a positive experience. We want to see ZYGMUN participants make new friends and, of course, feel comfortable and be able to confidently participate in high quality MUN.
As I’m sure a lot of you are, I was disappointed when hearing that we could not host this year’s ZYGMUN conference in Warsaw. However, I am more than delighted that we have the opportunity and privilege to continue to pursue the conference virtually. A virtual conference is something a lot of people have been skeptical about. That being said, we have worked very hard to ensure that ZYGMUN remains a prestigious and organised conference. I have absolutely no doubt that this will be an experience that will last a lifetime. I am very proud of the work the Chairs, my fellow Secretariat, and the Director have put into making this conference not only possible but also of the highest standard.
I’m excitedly anticipating the conference.

Attendees of ZYGMUN,
I take great pride in welcoming you to the third iteration of our distinguished conference here at the American School of Warsaw.
I began actively participating in MUN in the second semester of my junior year, and since then I have only had the chance to participate in 3 different conferences, including ZYGMUN II. Despite this, I have consistently led debate and demonstrated leadership qualities, regardless of my country’s perceived status. These experiences have continued to shape my international perspectives and made me a more internationally-minded person, a skill I plan to utilise to a great extent in my future MUN career at university and beyond.
This year's topic, good health and well-being is suitable in wake of recent health scares, namely the coronavirus. Nonetheless, I hope that those attending the conference stay up to date with news surrounding this topic (good health and well-being), its related situations, and of course, the country they will represent. I look forward to all the great discussion and debate ZYGMUN will give all of us a chance to partake in.
Sincerely,
Casimir Wypyski
Deputy-Secretary General
