Melisa Çakım
Secretary-General
Dear ZYGMUN participants,
It is with great honor that I welcome you to this year’s ZYGMUN conference! I am currently a senior at the American School of Warsaw and originally Turkish. Although I spent most of my life in Turkey, in a short period of time Warsaw became my second home.
Since being introduced to the Model United Nations at the age of 11, I’ve had the chance to attend more than 20 conferences in multiple countries, In which I was given the chance to meet amazing people that i ended up creating long-lasting friendships with who shared views similar to my own in regards to discussing and acknowledging global issues that affect us all. Additionally I had the privilege of debating topics of all sorts in various committees, serving as the President of the General Assembly during V ZYGMUN 2022 and now serving as Secretary-General of IV ZYGMUN 2023!
Coming up with solutions to tackle these issues requires not only our individual input but also collaboration between us individuals. However, putting those solutions into action requires leadership skills and individuals like us that will take on the lead of trying to find a solution. Unfortunately , this is not adequate for us to make a change without being partners for our goals. Thus as the secretariat we expect all of you delegates to be good representatives of your countries and collaborate for resolutions that would be effective in possibly solving these problems. This year our conference theme is "Reduce Inequality” which is the 10th sustainable development goal. It is incredibly relevant to challenges and issues that our world is facing today. During our IV ZYGMUN Conference we are partnering with the UNHCR’s, Model United Nations Challenge meaning ECOSOC, UNHRC, Social, Humanitarian & Cultural (GA3) committees will be given the opportunity to draft resolutions on topics about refugees and possibly if approved by the UNHCR these resolutions will be shared with policymakers which makes the role of these committees more challenging and consequently prominent.
I can’t wait to welcome all of you as I am excitedly waiting for VI ZYGMUN to begin,
Sincerely,
Melisa Cakim

Sara Paruta
President of the General Assembly
Dear Directors, Student Officers and ZYGMUN Delegates,
It is with my utmost pleasure to welcome you all to the sixth annual conference of ZYGMUNT. My name is Sara Paruta and this year I will be serving as the President of the General Assembly. I am currently a senior at the American School of Warsaw and am originally from Italy. My MUN journey began three years ago in the midst of the global pandemic, where I was clueless to how live debate operated. Since then, I have come a long way, participating in both live and virtual conferences as delegate, student officer and secretariat member. After three years of virtual ZYGMUN conference, the ZYGMUN team is more than honored to have the opportunity of hosting an in-person conference in our beautiful city: Warsaw.
This year's conference theme is Sustainable Development Goal 10: "Reduce inequality within and among countries". In compliance with the theme, delegates will be challenged to look at inequality from different lenses; economic, political, social, gender and ethnic and most importantly seek solutions to these universal issues. Alongside this conference theme, this is ZYGMUN’s second year partnering with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Model United Nations Challenge, allowing delegates to debate major issues related to forced displacement.
I look forward to getting to know all of you this spring. Best of luck, Student Officers and Delegates!
Sincerely,
Sara Paruta

Heidi Sui
Head of Admin
Dear ZYGMUN Participants,
It is with utmost pleasure that I welcome you to the sixth iteration of ZYGMUN. My name is Heidi and I will be serving as the Head of Admin for this year’s conference. For me, this year’s ZYGMUN is uniquely special as I have come full circle from serving as an Admin in ZYGMUN 2019 to the Head of Admin in ZYGMUN 2023. A little bit about myself, I’m a sophomore from ASW and I have been actively involved with MUN since grade 6. Since then, I participated in 25 MUN conferences, including BERMUN, ASMMUN, JoMUN, ACMUN and CEESA-MS-MUN. Besides MUN, I have the pleasure to work alongside youth advocates in the UNHCR’s Youth Focus Group, and that is how the UNHCR MUN Challenge came to ZYGMUN. For delegates in committees involved in the UNHCR MUN Challenge, you will be tasked to come up with the most thorough and meticulously-done resolutions as they will be shared with real policymakers in the UN.
Today, the doomsday clock has never been closer to midnight. The impetus behind many modern threats in this period of global evolution can be traced back to the rise of inequalities on a regional and national scale. In the sixth iteration of ZYGMUN, you will have the opportunity to rectify these challenges with the power of policies through resolutions, and create conditions to maintaining planet earth as a welcoming place to all.
But for now, I cannot wait to welcome you all to the beautiful city of Warsaw!
Sincerely,
Heidi Sui

Karolina Kowalska
Deputy Secretary-General
Distinguished Directors, Student Officers, and Delegates of the VI ZYGMUN conference,
Welcome to the sixth annual ZYGMUN conference! I will be serving as one of the two Deputy Secretary-Generals this year alongside Mariia. I am honoured to be serving this role. I’m 15 years old, a sophomore in the American School of Warsaw, and originally from Poland. I only started doing MUN last year, when I decided to try to raise my confidence in public speaking and participate in debates. I’ve participated in four conferences since then; one of them, of course, being last year’s virtual ZYGMUN as a Student Officer. This will be my first in-person ZYGMUN, and my third in-person conference.
The theme of the 10th UN Sustainable Development goal, “Reducing inequalities in and among countries”, was chosen specifically to give delegates the opportunity to address current real-world issues. The issues committees will be debating are situations that need to be addressed and resolved. As such, delegates should put their best into debate to create a better world for us all!
I can’t wait to see all of you in Warsaw in March!
Sincerely,
Karolina Kowalska
