Karolina Kowalska
Secretary-General
Dear Directors, Student Officers, Admin, and Delegations of the VIII Zygmunt Model UN Conference,
Welcome to the eighth annual Zygmunt Model United Nations! I am honored to be serving as the Secretary-General in this year's iteration of ZYGMUN. I am 17 years old, and in the 12th grade at the American School of Warsaw. I am a year 2 IBDP student. I have been doing MUN for four years and in that time have attended 12 conferences, with this year’s ZYGMUN being my 13th. My ZYGMUN experience goes back to 2022, when I was in 9th grade, when I served as a Student Officer alongside Mariia. In 2023, I served as the Deputy Secretary-General, and in 2024 as the Co-President of the General Assembly. I'm from Poland (born in Gdańsk), but I've also lived in Croatia, Bulgaria, England, Ukraine, and Egypt.
This year's conference theme is Fostering innovation and development for peace and justice; a combination of UN SDGs 9 and 16. Student Officers, I would like to thank you for your commitment and passion throughout the ZYGMUN process: choosing topics, writing topic guides, and training delegates is worthy of praise. I hope you can take that confidence and capability as you go into this year’s ZYGMUN. You have a lot to be proud of and a lot to look forward to.
As for delegates, it is imperative that you both contribute to debate as individuals, as well as collaborate and partner together to come together and address your goals through legislation and solutions. This requires a myriad of skills, namely leadership, risk-taking, and problem-solving. The secretariat has high expectations for the delegates of VIII ZYGMUN to put their all into debates this year – the future is in your hands!
Directors and Advisors, I would like to wholeheartedly thank you for your participation in ZYGMUN VIII. I can assure you that this conference will yield a range of achievements for your delegates and Student Officers – they will make lasting memories, fruitful contributions to the debate, and gain a new insight into the world of international relations and the workings of the UN.
I wish you all the best in the eighth ZYGMUN and look forward to meeting you. Enjoy Warsaw!
Sincerely,
Karolina Kowalska

Valentina Andrašová
Head of Administration
Dear Directors, Student Officers, Advisors, Admin, and Delegates of the VIII Zygmunt Model UN Conference,
Welcome to the 8th annual ZYGMUN conference. Serving as your head of administration in this year’s ZYGMUN conference is a great honor of mine. I am a sophomore at the American School of Warsaw, and while I was born and raised in Slovakia, I have lived in Poland for 8 years now.
With my 4 years of MUN experience with over 6 conferences completed, I have been a delegate in the Environmental Committee and in the Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Committee, as well as president of the security council as a first-time chair.
This year’s debates will center around the theme of “Fostering innovation and development for peace and justice”, which touches base on the crucial role of creativity and progress in building a more just and peaceful world. Encouraging innovative plans and sustainable solutions can lead nations to address the pressing global issues such as inequality, conflict, and climate change in marginalized communities. This conference theme, especially in the year 2024, can inspire delegates to explore new technological advancements and economic growth to promote peace, uphold justice, and ensure a more equitable future for all. The 8th year of ZYGMUN’s goal is to spark developments that can influence international cooperation and enable societies to overcome challenges as a step to ensure justice.
In my free time, I love to watch movies, listen to good music, play tennis, and obviously, learn the rules of procedure.
I look forward to working with you all in your committee sessions, with delegates, chairs and guests.
