CHAIRS
Picture
Esteemed Delegates of ZYGMUN’s Security Council,

I am Kacper Szafran, and I am a senior in the IB programme at the American School of Warsaw. Some of my hobbies include tennis, motorsports, and skiing. While my interests range from business and finance to fashion to international relations. The latter, most closely related to the conference, stems out of my international experiences gathered through living abroad in countries including South Africa and Belgium. That interest also sparked my curiosity for the functioning of the United Nations, and hence involvement in the simulated version that is MUN.

My experience with MUN started in ninth grade, when living in Brussels. That was when I attended my first conference, which was organized by my school, and also immediately gained hands-on experience in the Security Council, representing the United States. Later that school year, I attended THIMUN, which gave me an outlook on MUN as it is done on a global stage. Afterwards, my MUN experience continued at our ASW MUN Club, with travelling to Berlin for the BERMUN conference in all three years ever since tenth grade, and carrying the role of ambassador for the past two. While my chairing experience does not hold official attestation to that extent, many hours spent in debate as a delegate and at least a dozen spent chairing our club sessions, proved to be ample to take on this prestigious role of chairing the Security Council at our school’s first conference.

Sincerely,
Kacper Szafran

Chair of the Security Council

Esteemed Delegates of ZYGMUN’s Security Council,

My name is Defne and during the time of the conference in March I will be an 11th grader at the American School of Warsaw. Even though I have never lived in Turkey, I consider myself Turkish because my whole family is from there. I was born in Belgium and lived there for around 10 years before I moved to Costa Rica for 3 years and then eventually to Poland. These travels have enabled me to adapt to different backgrounds and societies. The variety of cultures I have experienced, from Middle Eastern and European to Latin American, has triggered my interest in international relations as well as the appreciation of foreign culture which is the primary reason behind my interest in MUN. Aside from MUN, I enjoy Speech and Debate, playing piano, reading and swimming.

This will serve as my 5th conference overall, and my first one as Chair which is why I’m ecstatic to share this experience with you all.
Serving as Chair for the Security Council, I will be moderating debate, lobbying and will be a source of guidance for you all. I hope that this experience will not only be an excellent learning opportunity, but will also be fulfilling for the accumulation of knowledge through fruitful debate such that you will be the next of our global leaders,

Sincerely,
Defne Onguc

Chair of the Security Council
