Meet the chairs:
Esteemed Delegates,
It is my great pleasure to be a part of the ZYGMUN Conference for the third year in a row, this year however as a Student Officer. I am a senior at the American School of Warsaw, that being my 14th year as a student here. I began my adventure with Model United Nations as a sophomore when I decided to join the MUN Club at the American School of Warsaw. Since then, I have attended conferences such as the Anatolia College Model United Nations in Thessaloniki, often functioning as the delegate of a P5 country. I am very passionate about debate and have participated in such numerous times, which will hopefully allow me to not only effectively moderate discussion in my committee, but also guide and support the delegates throughout the entire conference. The topics chosen to be discussed within our committee at this year’s conference are both extremely interesting, engaging aspects of today’s society. Creating and strengthening effective sexual education systems in all member states, is an essential step towards shifting the taboo approach towards sexual health into informative programs. Using torture as a means of interrogation is a technique existing for far too long. Discussing how it could be eradicated will certainly play an important role in how it can be gotten rid of once and for all. Once again, I am sincerely looking forward to chairing at the upcoming ZYGMUN Conference, and am very excited to meet you all!
Kaja Klimowicz,
Chair of Political Committee
Esteemed Delegates of the Political Committee,
This year ZYGMUN conference marks my sixth Model United Nations conference and my first chairing experience. Previously, I attended conferences such as BERMUN, PACMUN, and various CEESA events. Three years ago, as a seventh-grader, I attended my first MUN session as a delegate in the Political Committee. Now nearly three years later, I find myself thrilled to chair that same committee. Although I have never chaired a MUN committee, I look forward to the unique learning experience and deepening my Model UN knowledge. This year’s conference theme is “ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages.” I find this year’s theme presents our Political Committee with a unique opportunity to discuss not only governmental systems but moreover how these systems directly correlate to the well being of the people.
Our controversial topics will lead to some fascinating heated debate and I cannot wait to hear the interesting points brought up by you and your fellow delegates. Our first topic, creating and strengthening effective sexual educational systems in all member states, allows us to discuss the important and yet overshadowed issue of a lack of sexual education. ZYGMUNS location in Poland, a nation without sex ed, is prime proof of a nation that lacks proper sexual education. I encourage delegates to challenge the presented systems and hopefully imagine resolutions which tackle the issue at hand. The second topic, eradicating the use of torture as a means of interrogation, is once more a unique topic that will surely spark fascinating conversations about an issue seen far too often in the interrogative world. I encourage delegates to prepare unique solutions to the unique topics at hand. I can’t wait to see what you present!
Sincerely,
Alexandra Gliwinski, Chair of Political Committee
