Meet the chairs:
Esteemed delegates of the Environment Assembly,
I am honored to serve as a chair for the upcoming ZYGMUN 2020 conference.
This is my third MUN conference, and I am delighted to be involved in the Environment Assembly this year. The reason as to why I joined MUN was to broaden my horizons and work on my debating and public speaking skills. MUN has helped me develop several skills that I have been able to apply in my academic, but also personal pursuits. This being my 12th year at ASW, and 2nd year at ZYGMUN, I am excited to be a part of the 2020 conference. My hopes for this conference are set high, and I believe that by working together we will be able to achieve great success. I shall do my best to honor the duty of being a source of guidance for all members of the Environment Assembly, moderating debate and providing thoughtful insights.
I am confident that the topics for this committee are ones of great significance in the modern world, especially today. With climate change posing a threat to our world, more and more people are being affected by environmental factors. It is every person’s duty to help combat the issue at hand, in order to support the ones suffering from this problem. I have faith that as a team we will be able to produce an adequate resolution to take action towards the prevention of climate migrants.
As for the second topic of this committee, life is undoubtedly heading towards an industrialized world with bigger cities and larger infrastructures. There are, of course, benefits to urban sprawl, however, we must be aware of the wide range of environmental factors that negatively impact our communities, ecosystems, and wildlife at an unsettling rate. Frank N. Ikard questioned, “Will urban sprawl spread so far that most people lose all touch with nature? Will the day come when the only bird a typical American child ever sees is a canary in a pet shop window? When the only wild animal he knows is a rat - glimpes on a night drive through some city slum? When the only tree he touches is the cleverly fabricated plastic evergreen that sheds his gifts on Christmas morning?” I encourage all delegates to consider the multitude of perspectives on this topic and contribute a wide range of ideas and applications during our debate.
As for my personal life, I am currently an 11th-grade student during my first year of IB. I thoroughly enjoy spending my free time on athletics, especially tennis. I share a large passion for sciences, mostly chemistry and biology, which makes me all the more happy to be working with you in the Environment Assembly. I find great pleasure in viewing the arts, including music, paintings, literature, cinematography, and much more.
I look forward to meeting all of you and working with you at the conference. I am intrigued to see the solutions we can come up with, and I count on being inspired by some of the ideas presented. I hope you find ZYGMUN to be a fun and unforgettable experience, and I will try my best to help you achieve that satisfaction.
Sincerely,
Zofia Kowalska

Chair of the Environment Assembly
Dear Delegates of the Environment Assembly,
it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to this year’s conference. I am honoured to be chairing this committee the environmental committee. This year Zygmun focuses on the health and well being of people and with this theme in mind, I am sure that we as chairs have been successful in choosing interesting and important topics to discuss.
Our first topic will be discussing the actions which need to be taken in order to prevent climate migrants. With ever-increasing temperatures, sea levels, wildfires, and many other environmental disasters, many have been expelled from their homes due to unsafe living conditions. Our aim is to minimize the number of climate migrants in the future. The second topic we will discuss is environmental issues associated with urban sprawl. We have seen an increase in air pollution, water pollution and increased energy consumption worldwide caused by an increase in urban sprawl in recent years. Many issues associated with urban sprawl relate to both the environment and the well being of people, making it a complex and highly relevant topic to discuss.
I have been doing MUN for two years and attended three conferences including BERMUN and ACMUN as well as our ZYGMUN conference. This will be my first time chairing a committee. I enjoy the experience of MUN conferences as it allows me to get to know new people and also discover different perspectives on world issues and I think that for those reasons MUN conferences are a unique opportunity to further understand the world we live in. I also enjoy horseback riding and listening to music even though I have no musical talent, some of my favourite artists include Conan Gray, BROCKHAMPTON, and Lorde.
I look forward to meeting you all at the conference and see the solutions that you will come up with during the conference for the issues we will be discussing.
Sincerely,
Vera Jagielski, Chair of Environment Assembly
