Dear Delegates,

Welcome to the VII ZYGMUN conference and the Environment Assembly! It is a great honor to have been selected to be chair of this committee and to have the chance to lead discussions on such important topics. To briefly introduce myself, I am a sophomore at the American School of Warsaw, but while I have been living in Poland for 7 years, I am actually originally from Lithuania. Outside of school, I mostly enjoy spending time with friends, listening to music, and watching movies. It is currently my second year participating in MUN, and ZYGMUN will be my seventh conference; in fact, this is my first time in the role of chair, however, I am confident that my experience as a delegate in various committees, as well as an advocate in the ICTY, has prepared me well for this new responsibility. As a chair, I will do my best to create a collaborative and inclusive environment where everyone's perspectives are valued and heard!

Our two topics in the Environment Assembly this year will be “Conserving Coral Reefs in Southeast Asia” and “Combatting Illegal Wildlife Trade.” The two topics further align with the overall theme of the VII ZYGMUN conference: Creating Sustainable Communities through Responsible Consumption and Production. By focusing on conserving coral reefs in Southeast Asia, we aim to address the urgent need for protecting marine biodiversity and promoting sustainable tourism practices in the region; while combatting illegal wildlife trade will allow us to explore ways to combat this detrimental practice and safeguard endangered species from exploitation – helping create a more sustainable and responsible future for different communities.

I look forward to seeing you work together to find innovative solutions that can make a real impact in preserving our planet's biodiversity – can’t wait to meet you all in March!

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to the Environment Assembly at this year's ZYGMUN. To briefly introduce myself, I am a 16 year old sophomore at Institut Montana Zugerberg located in the Swiss mountain town of Zug, though I was born and brought up in India. My interests include playing tennis, golf and practicing a martial art called Taekwondo.

My first MUN conference was in the fall of 2021 and since then I have attended over 8    conferences as a delegate. I have chaired the IMZMUN 2023 and our schools weekly sessions. This will be my first time attending an external conference as a chair and I am very thankful and grateful for this opportunity.

This year our committee will tackle two very important topics: Combating Wildlife Trade and conserving the coral reefs in Southeast Asia. Both these topics hold global importance as 7 to 23 billion dollars worth of goods are sold each year and these are conservative estimates whereas over 50 percent of the coral reefs have already been declared critically endangered. It is my hope that in the spirit of this year's annual ZYGMUN conference that you delegates foster innovative ideas and seek answers to questions and come up with solutions.

I look forward to seeing you all at the conference,

Vansshvardhan Agarwal,
Chair of the Environment Assembly
