American School of Warsaw Dear Delegates, I’m pleased to welcome you to ZYGMUN IV and being your chair in the Jr.MUN Committee. Taking the role of a chair in a committee is something I never experienced before, but looking forward to, as I’m always open on trying new things and being knowledgeable about the available experiences especially when they involve MUN. Despite this being my first ZYGMUN conference, I have been a proud MUN participant since 6th grade. Following conferences, such as PACMUN and BERMUN, which I have attended with my friend and fellow chair, Heidi Sui. Taking part in about six conferences gave me an opportunity to represent different delegations. Those delegations include; China, Malaysia, Indonesia, U.S.A., Spain and Greece. MUN teaches you many important factors of communication and social thinking. You develop confidence and leadership skills through experience. Model United Nation allows you to practice research, public speaking, negotiation and most importantly develops your thinking and perspective on many social issues concerning the world and societies around, while working together to find possible solutions. The conference theme is Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, thus I believe that chosen topics, “Regulating the Militarization and Weaponization of Space” and “Protecting The Right of Privacy In the Digital Age” are fit for the conference theme. The weaponizations of space have increasingly become an issue of concern. It is a necessity for it to be discussed and regulated as Space is a challenged, clogged, and serious area. The major innovations and advances that impact the weaponizations and militarization of space, globally challenge communities. The exploration and use of outer space shall be for peaceful purposes and shall be carried out for the benefit and in the interest of all countries, irrespective of their degree of economic or scientific development. When going into debate this is an important aspect to consider, keeping in mind the more developed countries as well as LEDCs. When looking at the second topic, protecting individuals' right to privacy is one of the biggest modern day concern that needs to be addressed. Personal data around the world is being used for unauthorized purposes. Especially in the Digital Age where more developed and advanced technology was introduced, more privacy issues are occurring such as data breaches or computer and network surveillance. Therefore, member states need to take action to re-think and regulate the current online privacy as it’s almost non-existent. I lived in Poland my entire life and In my free time I enjoy playing sports. My favorite sports are cross-country and swimming. However, in the summer I'm spending the majority of my time surfing. Besides being passionate about sports I also enjoy spending time with my friends and journalism. As a chair I'm looking forward to creating a constructive environment that is beneficial to every delegate. I hope that I will be able to make your experience in the Jr. MUN Committee unforgettable. American School of Warsaw Dear Delegates, Welcome to ZYGMUN IV and the Jr.MUN Committee. I am very excited for the opportunity to be chairing the Jr.MUN Committee as it is my first time taking on the role of a chair even since starting my MUN journey in 6th grade. This is my third ZYGMUN Conference, first time I attended as an admin, then as a delegate and now as a chair! I have also attended the PACMUN and BERMUN Conference alongside my friend and fellow chair Szymon Kapustka. And I recently participated in a few HS MUN Conferences such as NBMUN in South Korea, JoMUN in South Africa, ASMMUN in Italy, ACMUN in Greece, HMUN in Boston, MUNUM in Michigan and HWMUN in Tokyo. MUN gives us the opportunity to debate, collaborate and compromise with students from all over the world. And most importantly understand the importance of globalization and the UN and how crucial it is for countries to collaborate in saving humanity from harms such as the devastating pandemic in which we are dealing with right now. Now, regarding the conference theme of Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, the current environment around space weaponization must be regulated and rethinked within the light of expiring treaties. Keep those questions in mind throughout the upcoming exciting debate: With the fact that some of the world’s fastest technologically developed countries allowing the legal establishment of space forces as a formal military branch, and the fact that private space companies under the hands of individuals are launching more statillies than all LEDCs combined, should the UN stand by and watch? Should countries join the force despite the heated globalization troubles created by COVID and design improved and updated treaties to regulate the usage of satillies and possible militarizations around space? And most importantly, without these regulations, are we achieving Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions? Will Space be considered peaceful without our genius ideas and efforts put on coming up with a new space non-militarization treaty? As for my personal life, I am currently an 8th grader studying in the American School of Warsaw. I thoroughly enjoy spending my time on Horse Riding, Sports, History and Note Taking! I have used my free time during the Summer & Winter Break to start and finnish 3 books/graphic novels consisting of my arts, notes and knowledge all regarding the American Revolutionary War as well as the American Civil War. I hope you find ZYGMUN to be a fun, comfortable and unforgettable experience, and I will try my best to help you achieve that satisfaction. Xinying Sui, Chair of the ZYGMUN Jr. Committee |
