Meet the presidency:
Dear Delegates of the Security Council,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the ZYGMUN 2020 conference.
This is my fourth MUN conference, and third conference where I have been a member of the Security Council. I thoroughly enjoy MUN and I am truly glad that I joined the program. I believe that the skills I have learned from debating have undoubtedly helped me in many other aspects of my academic career. While this is my first time being a student officer, I believe that my various other leadership roles and previous MUN experience has greatly prepared me for this role. In debate I will contribute these leadership skills and fierce passion for MUN.
The Security Council sets itself apart from other committees with its unique form of debate and challenging topics. The SC is tasked with ensuring international peace and security. This often seems impossible to accomplish and requires the collaboration of all member states. This year our conference's theme is: Good Health and Well-Being: Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages. This theme is extraordinarily important at this time as there are numerous conflicts around the world that threaten this goal. The SC topics for this year do just that. The situation in Libya and Mali are currently threatening the wellbeing and health of many civilians in these countries. Both countries have been torn apart from civil wars that stemmed from political disputes. The continued violence has killed numerous people and precipitated a human rights crisis.
I am a 16 year old student in the 11th grade at the American School of Warsaw. Aside from MUN, I enjoy playing sports, specifically soccer and softball. Athletics have always been an important part of my life and I am currently the president of the Athletics Council. I am also very interested in Biology and Math.
I wish you luck in preparing for the conference and I look forward to seeing you all at the conference.
All the best,
Sophia Shields
President of Security Council
